Abstract
Objective: the objective was to evaluate the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic aspects of the association of breast cancer and pregnancy (CSAG) in the Gynecology and Obstetrics department of the CHRT.
Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective, descriptive study over a period of 6 years 6 months (from january 1, 2015 to june 30, 2021) on patients with breast cancer associated with pregnancy, treated at the department of obstetrics and gynecology at the Regional Hospital of Thiès. We included all patients with a CSAG diagnosed during pregnancy or the year following delivery. We studied the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic and prognostic aspects. Data was entered using an electronic database and analyzed using Sphinx version 5 software.
Results: During this period, we recorded 254 patients with breast cancer, 16 of them had an association of breast cancer and pregnancy, a frequency of 6.29%. The average age of the patients was 32.75 years. Thirteen patients (81.25%) had a tumor classified as T4, 11 patients, or 68.75%, had fixed axillary lymph nodes, at the time of diagnosis. The extension assessment found secondary locations in 37.5% of cases. Chemotherapy was administered in thirteen patients, or 81.25% of cases. Amastectomy was performed in 50% of cases including one during pregnancy. The eleven pregnant patients had carried their pregnancy to at least 36 weeks and had given birth to live and healthy newborns. The survival of our patients at 3 years was 37.5%..
Conclusion: The diagnosis of CSAG is often delayed due to the physiological changes of pregnancy and lactation. These diagnostic and therapeutic delays make the prognosis gloomy in our structure with an overall survival at 03 years of around 37.5%.
