Abstract

Objective: To analyze the influence of task shifting to frontline health workers on the supply of longacting methods in the health district of Sig-Noghin in Burkina Faso from October 28th to November 17th, 2019. Materials and methods: We used a qualitative estimate type single case study with an exploratory aim, carried out in the pilot sites of the health district of Sig-Noghin. We used a sampling of volunteers to have the participation of fourteen (14) participants in the study. Semi-structured individual interviews, nonparticipant direct observation and documentary review were used to collect the data. Results: Front-line workers have difficulty carrying out the counselling. Difficulties are also related to the removal of implants and the insertion of the intrauterine device  (IUD). Many frontline workers were motivated with a sense of usefulness and recognition even though, at times, insufficient inputs hindered the completion of delegated tasks. Conclusion: task shifting to frontline health workers improves the supply of long-acting contraceptive methods provided they have the required skills.
